Recovery mode after help

My question is this, after many helpful MVP'S, it was suggested to start from
scratch, so do I use recovery disks to default my computer? Or is there some
other way to get back to the beginning, like when my windows installer worked
and I could get updates.

If a set of Recovery disks came with the machine, yes, use them to reinstall
Windows.
