Cannot install update KB949041

I have tried many times to install this high priority update for the
Microsoft Office Power Point viewer 2003. Each time, it said that the
"Initializing" was done but then the "Installation" failed. I have
reinstalled the Power Point Viewer and disabled McAfee and popups. I have
Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.

Can anyone tell me why I cannot install this update?

Did you retain the installation file for PPV 2003 or delete it ?
Security updates for all Office Viewers will not install if the
installation source file is deleted.

If that is not the case, then open the Application event log and see if
there is an error code for the installation failure.
*Right* click My Computer either on the Desktop or Start Menu and choose
Manage
Expand [click the plus sign next to] System Tools
Expand Event Viewer
Click on Application
In the right frame, look for Error under Type and under Source for
MsiInstaller.
Double click the entry
Click the file icon under the up and down arrows to copy the information
and then post it into your reply, please.
