updates not installing

Hi

I've been trying to install some updates on my recently purchased system but
they keep failing to install. the updates are :

Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 and 11

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365)
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
Security Update for Windows XP (KB950762)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5
(KB923689)
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB951376)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB951698)
Update for Windows XP (KB951978)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748)
Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB938127)
Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB953839)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - August 2008 (KB890830)

Does anyone have a clue as to why these updates will not install on my system?

Crystal ball sez - Updates are not installed successfully from Windows
Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you
perform a new Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP
installation

Ignore the title, perhaps Method 1 will be sufficient.

Otherwise post back with some more information like any error codes or the
errors from the udpate log -

How to view the Update log in Windows:-

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type: %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If
appropriate copy and paste the error codes into this thread so someone may
be able to assist you. On the other hand, you may be able to find the error
code and other suggestions by searching the Newsgroup.

Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of
update ie KB896688) and post the contents of the failed update.
This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

I am having the same problem. I have tried both options under the suggested
link and neither have worked even after manually reinstalling Microsoft
Update. I now have about 8 different updates that fail, all for MS products.
My OS and all software are licenced so there should be no problems that way.

You receive error 0x80070643 when you are installing Office 2003 Updates.
Updates fail to install because ose service is disabled or cannot be
started. Applicable Office versions: Office 2003

You cannot install an Office 2003 service pack
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884298
Step 2: Re-create the path of the original installation source in the
registry
Especially for 80070643 if a registry cleaner is used

You receive an "Error 80070643" error message when you try to update Office
2003 by using Software Update Services

Just using this 'fix', the first one you had suggested, solved my problems.

SOLVED!!

i could not install:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP
(KB953838)
and
Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB938127)

These pblms were solved by reinstalling internet explorer 7 using this
link. Then reboot... then the run those installation should work.
