Windows XP Service Pack 3

I have tried installing this twice and the same thing happens both times.
Seems to load and prepare to install perfectly then I get the message "Access
Denied" no reason and nothing to do about it. The program was purchased
with/on a new emachine about a year ago and other updates have gone well. I
have no idea who or what is denying access or what to do about it but have
thought that the service packs were among the more important of the downloads.
