As I said, I have an ongoing case with them for this issue. The
problem is that they are slow to respond and still haven't suggested
doing anything I haven't already tried. But I am being patient with
them and following all of their steps. In fact, they have now *three
times* "suggested" I try a manual installation of the updates, and I
will, again, reply and tell them it is still not working.

As the other guy said, he went around with them for 2 months with no
resolution for this error. I'm not hopeful that they'll solve it for
me, but I'm being patient and we'll see.

Re: Windows Update fails on multiple items with Code 800719E4
Is this via the phone or email, Brandon ?

BTW, there's another IE Cumulative Security update that was issued today
that supercedes the previous one:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Download and save Windows6.0-KB953838-x86.msu
Then *right* click the downloaded file and choose 'Run as administrator'.
Follow the prompts.

Did that get it installed ?

Email. I suppose I should devote a day to a phone call. [sigh]

No. And WU reports the same error code.

I had over a dozen updates show up on WU today. I was able to get all
of them installed except for this new IE update and the previous
security update mentioned before.

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB953838)
Installation date: ‎8/‎12/‎2008 5:25 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 800719E4

Security Update for Windows Vista (KB950582)
Installation date: ‎8/‎12/‎2008 5:25 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 800719E4

I also used msconfig to do a minimal startup (only MS services, no
startup programs), ran the WU reset utility you suggested before, and
then tried WU again. Still the same problems.

Re: Windows Update fails on multiple items with Code 800719E4
Since both updates are for Explorer, IE and Windows, than perhaps an
add-on is causing the installation failures. Open the Internet Options
applet in Control Panel, click the Programs tab and then the Manage
Add-ons button to access them. [ these steps are for XP; Vista may differ ]
Disable all non-Microsoft add-ons and see if that resolves the
installation issue.

If I'm following the thread correctly, the error code is "log full". Perhaps
this is the Internet Explorer event log? (I assume there's an IE event log in
the Windows Vista version as there is in the Windows XP one?)

In this context, "Full" might mean "corrupt". What does the system event log
viewer show?

Harry.

Hmm interesting because I bought this machine with Vista installed and am
getting same issues. SO if it is hardware, am thinking it is a pure
incompatability and not an old hdw issue. I also have a AMD dual core.. I
wonder if it is an incompatability there

Brandon above indicated that he has Intel CPU, and our hardware
configurations are very different. So it's hard to tell if this is some sort
of incompatibility and where exactly if yes.

BTW I checked the KB article about this KB950582 fix and found out that
there are workarounds so you can use them and live without the update.

Iam experiencing long ago the same problems. But Iam not a expert in
pc so what I did is hide those updates that are giving me problems.
Idid not report this because i thought it was a problem microsoft wil
automatically resolve. I only have this new pc ith vista for 8 months.
I do have a antivirus application. Any suggestions how I can fix this
in a simple way?

Hiding the updates means that if *any* of them are meant to address a
Critical Security vulnerability and they are NOT installed, the system
is *VULNERABLE*. Even an update to date antivirus will not fully protect
the system because the definitions will *not* cover every known and
unknown malware.

MS offers no-charge support in getting Security updates installed.
If you don't report the issue your system is experiencing with the
updates, then MS will *never* know about them.
