UPDATE PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I just got off a FREE security help session (866) 727-2338. They call it a
"grace case". I spoke to a Sabbabjeet Singh (Sabby). He took over my PC, and
determined that my Update file had been corrupted. He stated this is common
when Norton or MacAffee security are running during an update install.
I'm a very fuzzy about all he did, but I'll try:
He renamed the Update file to .old, found and fixed a bad file named
msxml4.dll by copying from Windows side-by-side to Windows 32. Uninstalled
KB936181 & KB941833. Went to the Microsoft site and downloaded them to my
desktop and ran them.... At any rate it is all fixed now!
His suggestion: From now on, before I allow an automatically downloaded
update that is either important or critical to be installed, I first disable
my security software... (I use Nortopn 360) and turn it back on after the
install.
That's all I have to report. good luck to all!
