new update options and software

Hi Everyone,

There is a new Mcrosoft update system, but I can't get it to work on my
computer (WinXpProSP3), because Windows update asked me once if I wanted to
install some sort of new "controls" and at the time I said no, now the update
system won't ask me again.
How can I correct this?

Ignore title/subject...

Perform method 1 and perform method 2
and reboot and then try to update*.


*try to update:
- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
- If it asks you to install anything before you see a selection of "Custom"
or "Express" - do so.
- Once you see the "Custom" or "Express" selection, choose "Custom".
- Scan for updates.
- When it lists what it finds - install the critical ones.
- You are generally safe doing the Optional Software Updates. I suggest
avoiding the Optional Hardware Updates completely.

Shenan,
I went to the Microsoft web-site and performed both methods listed . I
finally got method # 2 to work . When I went to the updates web-site ,I
didn't see anything different. I think I was expecting to see a different GUI
interface for the new update system . Maybe there isn't one.
Both of my custom updates went Thur, and I was told that my computer was
up to date , with security and critical updates.
