Update fails every time and repeats

Update KB 9219896 - SQL Server 2005

This update fails every time and Windows attenpts to re-install whenever I
switch my PC off.

Could it be because I don't use SQL server 2005 and so the service is
disabled. If so, how do I start the service as the 'Start' option is disabled
when I use 'Services' from the Adminsitartive tools.
