Re: Error number: 0x80240036

If updating Java doesn't work you may want to check your windows update
service. If it is completely disabled on your machine you will get
error 0x80240036

at windows update.

How to fix:

Start -> Run...

type:

services.msc

press enter

right click on: automatic updates

choose: properties

click the Log on tab

make sure Local system account is checked

make sure profile 1 is Activated

click General tab

make sure start type is Automatic

make sure Service status is started. If it is not click start.

windows update should now work :-)

Re: Error number: 0x80240036
Judging from similar posts here in the past month or so, the behavior may be
due to a Vundo-ZLOB-SDBot infection, all of which is protected by a rootkit.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,

by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Re: Error number: 0x80240036

I'm developing a program that interfaces with Windows Update Agent
(WUA).

When debbuging, I got a lot of 0x80240036 errors, when I tried to
download a patch that were already downloaded.

So, I suppose that if you delete all files from:
%WinDir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download maybe WU should work

Hope it helps
