my pc won't leave my home page

Since I installed the last 4 windows update (I run XP with service pack 2,
explorer 7), I am stuck on my home page whether I choose a favorite, a link,
or type in an address. I can open a new tab, and access a site from a new
tab. But I can not access a new site from my home page, even though the
address appears in the correct place. I also can't use the back arrow.

any ideas?

Tools, Internet Options, what does it say for your home page?
Can you access sites from the dropdown list of recently accessed
sites?
Can you access sites from Favourites (bookmarks)?

What four (4) updates did you install?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?
