computer freezes when trying to update vista service pack 1

My computer has just started to freeze or shut down when i click to update the

Windows vista Service Pack 1.0 (KB951213) and

Cumulative Update for Media Centre for Windows Vista (KB950126)

service pack says Important and the other says recommened...

Any help will be appreciated

Does this happen when the updates are being downloaded or installed ?

Same here I thought it was my laptop. Everything froze twice today. I
could ctl alt delet to task manager but when there could not click on
anything. Had to power down manually using the 8 sec. button hold.
Rebooted a few times then on one reboot notice the update icon
showing. Went to safe mode was able to get functions back. Went back
and realize it was trying to install an update. I went ahead and
installed the updates. One of those was the KP950126 Media Cente
update. This used to happen on another laptop I had in XP. I hate to
turn off my updates but its pretty darn annoying. I turned them off
will manage manually. That way I won't be doing anything important
when Microsoft decide to bring down my pc.
