Updates not installing

Got a new computer w/ XP Home and set it up last Saturday. I downloaded and
installed the current updates including SP3 and all except 3 updates loaded.
The ones that didn't was:
KB900725 - error: 0x8007F06B
KB920872 - error: 0x8007F06B
KB947864 - error: 0x8024006

Then on Sunday I activated my Microsoft Office and got notice of more
updates. I downloaded those and they wouldn't install. No error code because
it didn't attempt, just a error all together. When it tried it just said
error on all at the same time. So I tried a different way and went to shut
down when it asks to turn off to install updates and it says installing 1 of
13 and then just shuts down without loading any of them. I now have about 13
or 14 updates downloaded and none of them are installing some for Office and
some for XP. Also my internet connection seems to be bogged down so it takes
forever to download the updates. I got about 300 megs of updates just sitting
there.

Please help becuase my new computer was fine and now it is really bumming me
out.

Did the machine come with WinXP SP2 preinstalled? Did you install "the
current updates" and SP3 via Windows Update or manually (i.e., using
installers that you'd first downloaded)?

Is Automatic Updates enabled?

anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these appplications running when you installed SP3?

Did Windows Update or Automatic Updates offer the three (3) updates you're
posting about now or did you attempt to install them manually, John?

newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install

KB947864 was replaced/superseded today (10 Jun-08) by KB950759. Does
Windows Update or Automatic Updates offer KB950759...or can you install it
manually?

John, I read your post and I have the exact same problem. Did you manage to
sort out your "installing of updates". I have the error code 0x8007FODA.
There are so many updates sitting there, downloaded, but failing to install.

Yes my computer did come with SP2 and the current updates was done through
the Window updates (not manually)

The ant-virus installed is McAfee (which I am not a fan of and will probably
move to Norton once my 30 day subscription is up) There is no third-party
firewall that I know of unless the new Internet Explore 7 had some sort of
one in it. Yes these programs was running at the time of installing SP3.

The three updates that did a installation error (as listed below) was done
by Windows Update and not manually, which by your comments may not be needed.
The updates I am really worried about it is the 13-14 updates (and future
updates) that have been downloaded but won't load. There seems to be
something blocking it. I have read in other peoples issues and tried
installing them with my McAfee internet protection turned off and that didn't
help.

I am not sure if my update history is shown in order of installation but if
it is then there is 2 updates that was downloaded last Saturday after SP3
that did install. So I am not sure if it could be IE7 could be blocking.

Wouldn't recommend either. Have you considered Avast? For a start, it's free
for non-commercial home use.

Try method 1 and try to update*.
If fails - try method 2 and try to update*.

If both of those methods fail...

- If it asks you to install anything before you see a selection of "Custom"
or "Express" - do so.
- Once you see the "Custom" or "Express" selection, choose "Custom".
- Scan for updates.
- When it lists what it finds - install the critical ones.
- You are generally safe doing the Optional Software Updates. I suggest
avoiding the Optional Hardware Updates completely.

Yes, the update history is displayed in date order (most recent at top of
list). What were the two (2) updates that were successfully installed last
Saturday?

I have been searching the help pages and question pages for an hour trying to
find out why my security update would not install. When I enter the error
code it said that there was no matching information. I wish that when a
update fails to install that it would give a reason in addition to the code.
The error code is error: 0x8007F06B, I had recently installed the service
pack 3 and because of that I DID NOT NEED THE UPDATE, it would have been nice
to be informed of that instead of having to search for so l.ong. Anyway
thanks to whoever wrote this you helped a great deal.
