That is a pretty generic error unfortunately.
The specific error is "Catastrophic Failure" which isn't too helpfull but
sure sounds scary.

Can you give my tool a shot to see if it helps:
http://www.codeplex.com/aureset

If not, we might can look at the logs it creates in c:\aulogs to narrow
this down some more.

I went to download the tool you gave out on the 10th of June, 2008...but it
was removed. Why, because the error is too widespread...really?
If it works...can't it be used by the people that have spent the money to
have windows products.
I have been having MULTIPLE problems with this system and the updates can't
resolve the errors that you ARE aware of...what are we suppose to do??
This is extremely frustrating and the fact that the threads have been asking
the same question for over a year makes it worse.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400/1505 Vista Home premium.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

RE: WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF WindowsUpdate_dt000
I too am having this exact problem. I'm running an HP with Vista Home
Premium, and 5 days ago it stopped letting me run updates. Is there some way
that I can fix this either from my computer or from the microsoft website
because the network that I'm on has kicked me into a remediate VLAN where it
won't let me go anywhere except microsoft.com to get updates. I really need
to get internet from that computer.

Thanks,
