Error after trying to recover from "resintall" mistake.
PC was at XP SP3, doing fine.

I was having some application hang errors to I elected to do a boot-time
CHKDSK. I ran into a some hard drive errors during boot version of CHKDSK
causing PC to reboot over and over at a certain point in the process.

Escaped 4th attempt at CHKDSK /F during boot, HP computer wanted to either
do a NT rollback or a reinstall. I mistakingly chose reinstall, thinking I
could bring it back up (eventually!) to where I was before. I cannot get
past the install of BITS 2.0, which is required to proceed. Please see
details below:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~
Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP
5.1 (KB842773)
This software updates the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to
v2.0 and updates WinHTTP. These updates help ensure an optimal download
experience with future versions of Automatic Updates, Windows Update, and
other programs that rely on BITS to transfer files using idle network
bandwidth.
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
