Hello Rick,

Have a look at this article. It may be relevant to your prºblem.

You may receive an error message that contains the "0x8DDD0018" code or the
"0x80246008" code when you try to download updates from the Microsoft Windows
Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site

Re: 0x8DDD0018
Rick,

If a Error 1508 comes up when you attempt to start the Automatic Updates
service, there's a strong likelihood that a malware known as
Vundo\Virutmonde is present. Suggest you read this:

Tutorial for Kapersky Online Scanner
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=15574

IF the malware is present, then suggest you post to a reputable
anti-malware forum for further assistance.
* Save* the Kaspersky report as shown in the tutorial.
Please read the guidelines of the forum of your choice prior to posting
there:

When the system is deemed to be clean *OR*, if there is *NO* malware
detected during the Kaspersky scan, go here and download the Automatic
Updates and WindowsUpdate Reset tool:

A full description of what it does can be read here:
