Automatic Updates

Hi,
I'm using Windows XP SP2. My automatic update keeps disabling itself. Have
tried the settings using Run - services.msc - automatic updates to enable it.
It can be enabled but I can't start it. Whenever I click on start, automatic
updates will disable itself and give this message "Could not start the
Automatic Updates service on Local Computer" Error Code: 1058.

I've also tried changing the Background Intelligent Transfer and Event Log
settings to Manual. They can start but this still does not enable Automatic
Updates. Please HELP!!!

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
