error 0x8DDD0018
When tng to update windows XP
Iget the following message:
The sit cannot continue bese one or more of these windows services is not
running.
Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent transfer
Event Log

I checked to see that the srvices are running. i found that all are running
except Automatic Updates. This Auto update service is showing the status as
stopping.
Staus stop and start are grayed out. startup type can be changed b it always
goes back to disabled.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Re: error 0x8DDD0018
Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
but are not limited to Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, AVG Anti-Spyware,
Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, NOD32, and Zone Alarm
(Free, Pro, & Security Suite).

Or the machine might have a hijackware infection.
