Peter.. the bottom line is that you're getting an error, an HTTP 400 error.

Something on that PC is mucked up, or something in the pathway from that PC
to microsoft.com is mucked up.

One thing that must be isolated is that there's not a flaw in the WSUS
configuration, thus my suggestion to run the CDT and post the results.

Otherwise, I think PA Bear's advice is the best one: Open a support
incident.

Thanks for the help guys, but I think I'll just ignore it for now, it's not
that important and I've got a lot of more important things to be working on
to be spending days on this.

Re: Windows update error 80244016
Interesting you should say that, although the machine can browse the
Internet using MSIE OK, I have seen posts on the Internet about XP machines
with a similar issue and the fix was to run "proxycfg -d". Vista
unfortunately doesn't have "proxycfg", the nearest I could find is the netsh
winhttp commands, but I used those to both clear and set the proxy but it
didn't help.

I've decided to give up on this for now as yet another Vista "issue", it's
not causing me that much inconvenience and I've got a lot of much more
urgent issues I need to be dealing with

Thanks for all the ideas though guys
