XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Yesterday I updated my Windows XP professional on my laptop using automatic
updates and Service pack 3 was installed. After this installation took place,
the message "limited or no connectivity" kept poping up and connection to
internet failed. I checked internet connection on another PC to be sure that
the problem was not from my internet service provider.
I tried to reinstall network adapters drivers but the message "limited or no
connectivity" kept appearing. I also attempted to system restore to a
checkpoint before the service pack 3 was installed but still failed.
Can anyone suggest a solution for this problem, please. thanks in advance
for your help.

Re: XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Hi zama86,
You don't say in your post, but I'm assuming that you're using a wireless
adapter.
I -- and many others -- have experienced loss of connectivity after
installing SP3. Some of the people have posted about this problem here in
this group, and various Web Forums are beginning to have other users
reporting this issue.
It doesn't seem to affect ALL users or computers -- in fact I'm posting this
message from an old Dell Dimension 2300 with a Netgear 11 Mbps wireless
adapter and with SP3 installed.
However, on my newer Dell Dimension E520 with a Netgear 54 Mbps wireless
adapter, the only way I could get connectivity to the Web was to uninstall
SP3.
I know that some of the Microsoft techs are aware of this, as I have seen
their comments in a few of the SP3-related forums.

Re: XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Hi Alan,
Thank you for your input. In fact it is a wireless adapter on DELL D620. I
tried to uninstall it from the control panel add/remove programs but it is
not listed there. How do I go about uninstalling it?

Right click on My Computer/Properties/Hardware tab/Device Manager button
and you'll find it in there. Right click on it to uninstall it.

Re: XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Hello zama86,
When you ask about "uninstalling it" I'm guessing that you mean the actual
SP3, rather than the wireless adapter.
I just looked in the Control Panel of my Dell 2300, and I see SP3 listed as
"Windows XP Service Pack 3."
I'm seeing this even without a tick mark in the "Show Updates" check box of
Add and Remove Programs.
Please let me know if you're able to find it.

Re: XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Hi Alan,
"Windows Service Pack 3" is not visible in the add/remove programs list
neither when I tick "show updates". Could this be due to the fact that I made
a system restore to an earlier date?
thanks

Re: XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Yes, it's possible. I've learned over the years that ANYTHING is possible
with computers. :->
If you right-click on the "My Computer" icon and left-click on Properties --
or click Start | Run and type in Winver and click OK -- , what does it show:
SP2 or SP3?

Re: XP SP3 - "Limited or no connectivity"
Well, if you're seeing Service Pack 2, then SP3 is no longer on your PC as
far as your machine knows. Of course, that doesn't mean there are no
remnants of SP3 still scattered in your registry or system files.
Have you tried doing a System Restore back to a time just before SP3 was
installed?
