VISTA SP1 :: 3GB versus 4GB of memory?
Installed Vista Service Pack 1, and i was wondering if it made 32-bit users
to utilize all 4GB of system memory (RAM) instead of the maximum 3GB. the
System Properties shows i have 4GB (which is correct) but the task manager
shows only 3GB, as well as my other programs, CCleaner and my Sidebar gadget,
the CPU Usage one.
did Service Pack 1 fix this? or do i really need to shell out more money
AGAIN for the 64-bit version?
Currently a VISTA Home Premium user (32-bit).

RE: VISTA SP1 :: 3GB versus 4GB of memory?
I have installed Windows Vista SP1 about a month ago it is working fine. did
Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) come with your computer or did you
pruchased it separately from a retail store? Windows Vista SP1 has made a lot
of changes to the Windows Vista operating system. For example, it makes
coping and deleting faster than before.

Re: VISTA SP1 :: 3GB versus 4GB of memory?
Hi there,
The memory limitation for 32 bit is still there, only thing that changed
with sp1 is that 4 Gb shows up but everything still working just like before
thats all.
Best regards,
Michel Denie

The system memory that is reported in the System Information dialog box in
Windows Vista is less than you expect if 4 GB of RAM is installed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605
Note in the "workarounds": An x64 (64-bit) version of Windows Vista must be
used.

Re: VISTA SP1 :: 3GB versus 4GB of memory?
Hi Shenan,
It is correct that vista sp1 makes 4 gb memory showing up in the system, the
32 bit mem limit is still working though

The reason that you cannot access all 4GB of RAM is that the operating
system and the computer are designed for memory mapped IO.
Changing now would require a different design for the hardware and software.
Such a change is not likely.
