RE: Updates if no internet connection
I have a similar issue. I had to disbale all my Automatic Updates because
something in them was causing me to be unable to connect to the internet.
Dell told me to do a system restore, so every day I had to restore to 8/6/08
in order to be able to connect to the internet. If not, I would always get a
message saying there was no internet connection even though my broadband was
working fine and diagnostics recognized that it was strong & active.

It seems like these updates should be on though!

Can anyone help with this?

Re: Updates if no internet connection
Yes, someone can help if you tell us which updates installed on 8/6.
Open the WindowsUpdate.log, located in WINDOWS, and find the entries for
8/6. Post back with them here, Alex.

and ready for installation. To install the updates, an administrator
should log on to this computer and Windows will prompt with further
instructions: - Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597
(Definition 1.41.365.0)

It appears that the updates that attempted to install on 8/6 were
released either the second or fourth Tuesday of July. The question is,
why were they not detected prior to then or were they declined by you,
but not Hidden ?
