I have tried several times too, unsuccessfully! I'm wondering if this update
has to do with Vista. I don't have Vista and don't plan to get until forced
to by MS.

There are a lot of threads about this already, so a search should have found the
information you want.

Assuming you have Internet Explorer 7 installed, but that Windows Update is
saying KB944338 is needed, the recommended solution is to download Windows
Script 5.7 from the Microsoft download center and install it. Once it is
installed, Windows Update should stop offering KB944338.
