Net framwork

There are multiple net framework updates in my add remove programs.
Can I safely delete the earlier installations?
Same for Java updates.

No on the .NET Framework - newer are not updates to older; all versions

Yes on the Sun Java. Why Sun does not do an uninstall prior to a new install
is an unknown.
