XPSP2: April updates caused startup to slow down after login.

Startup is normal up to Login, then it takes 10 minutes or more for my
desktop to appear. The screen displays: Applying Computer Settings (5+ min)
and Applying Personal Settings (another 5+ min). This condition only started
after Windows Updates:
Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB948881)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB941693)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP
(KB947864)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB948590)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2008 (KB890830)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB945553)

Any ideas?

Same incident occurring here also on XP Home SP2 with all current
patches.
Very lengthy slowdowns similar to booting slowdowns after March
Windows Updates
In March it was 944533 / 943055 / 946026 / 890830
I side stepped the issue temporarily by manually installing updates
linked to Microsoft at
Softwarepatch.com - this month that trick does not work
In April I've tried manually installing 890830 followed by 947864
result = slow after reboot
As 947864 rewrites the registry and needs a reboot,
I also tried unchecking 947864 and installing via Windows Update the
following:
948881 / 941693 / 945553 / 948590 / 890830 result = slow after reboot.
I am not seeing unusual HDD activity or high CPU utilization by a
process,
just glacially slow rebooting for 30-40 minutes followed by near
normal system behavior.
I am reverting to a complete local c: restore from a TerabyteUnlimited
BootIt N.G. backup.
If every month Microsoft can kill a few more XP (or W2k) systems
through update attrition,
then eventually we all can be herded into Vista.....

The culprit was the anti-virus program Eset NOD32 2.7 AMON, but as I
say above the slowdown occurred without detectable CPU utilization by
NOD32 (?) I switched to AVG Free 7.5 and installed April security
updates without further incident. "Loading personal settings..." was
on my CRT a lot prior to the A/V switchover. The uninstalled anti-
virus may have been overly tweaked. Other PCs here with untweaked
NOD32 accept the Microsoft April Security Updates OK. NOD32 is
perhaps the last A/V program you'd ever catch running as slow as
Norton. I guess I'll have to eat humble pie regarding update
attrition. Sorry about double posting but I wanted to come clean.

Thanks for your honesty; however, I am already running AVG Free 7.5. I am
thinking that uninstalling and reinstalling some of my startup security
programs might just dislodge the startup constipation.

I have been busy and haven't had the time to troubleshoot so don't expect
an update for a while. My temporary fix is to keep my computer running.
BTW, using MS Support Services is like watching a glacier flow.

Update -

After considering what mystery194 replied, I uninstalled all my security
programs: AVG 7.5, AdAware 2007, and ZoneAlarm 70.47. Rebooted, logged in,
and in less than a minute my desktop appeared. I started reinstalling the
security programs one at a time to see which one would hose the login. I
started with ZoneAlarm, rebooted, logged in, and waited 10 minutes for my
desktop to appear. ZoneAlarm's security vectoring software seems to be
interacting with the updates to cause the slow login; however, I have two
other identical machines running the same software which updated without a
hitch. Explain that!
