Set your Vista Update to either just notify you or to down load but not
install until approved.
All hardware updates offered by Microsoft update are optional. You should
never install a Microsoft offered hardware update {for non-Microsoft
hardware} until you determine what it does and that you need it. Get
hardware updates from your computer OEM or the hardware manufacturer.
When you have updates pending, Open Windows Update and review the updates.
Right click on any you do not want to install and select Hide. Hide can be
reversed. There is a option of the left side of Windows Update to restore
hidden updates.
