Continuous Failed Updates
I recently upgraded from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Pro. Since then my
Automatic Updater has been running pretty much non-stop. It downloads up to
82 different updates (mostly security updates), but when I try to install
them they always fail. Then when I close the window it begins downloading
them again. It's never ending. Is there a way to fix this?

Ignore the title - just try it -
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by
using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation

I tried out both the solutions listed on the link you provided. I had no
problem completing each method, but in the end my automatic updater still
fails to install any updates. Are there any other possible solutions?

Specifically ... what happened when you reregisterd wups2.dll ?
Did a success message appear ?
Did you stop the Automatic Update service from the Command Prompt prior
to registering the .dll ?

Please post the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log ... go to
Start > Run > copy and paste the below into the Open: line and then
click OK or press Enter.

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

The WU.log will now be open.
Scroll to the very bottom of it and copy&paste the last 50 or so lines
into your reply.

I had no problem reregistering wups2.dll. I did get a success message
afterwards, and I did stop the Automatic Update Service before registering
the .dll.

What we're looking for is a FATAL error code. Heck, there isn't even a
WARNING error code present. Please go further up in the log, which
actually is going backwards in time, and see if there is a section that
contains any WARNING or FATAL errors.

I'm just using the basic Windows Firewall if that is what you are referring
to. I don't have an anti-virus installed yet so there shouldn't be any other
ones.

I simply choose not to install an anti-virus. I tend to have more problems
with them installed than without them.
