updates fail
I recently did a registry restore (on home version of XP w/SP2) and now the
automatic updates that are downloaded indicate "fail" when trying to install.
I constantly get the gold/yellow shield in the tool bar area saying "Updates
are ready for your computer" every time I start the PC. I tried both methods
outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 but still get the same
problem. I went to the download center and downloaded the updates
individually and ran them. I get "The update cannot be applied". When I do
Start, Windows Update, the "checking for the latest updates for your
computer" is the only thing I see. Any ideas on how to fix?

Re: updates fail
Please tell us what you mean by "I recently did a...registry restore"? Are
you referring to System Restore? If so, what problem(s) were you
experiencing that you thought using System Restore would correct?

Re: updates fail
Thanks for the suggestions. After trying all the various ideas the only one
that worked was to re-install Office 2003. The repair of Office didnt work.
So now I have 18 updates to install vs. 5 updates. I guess it could be the
Migo registry repair tool I recently installed. Thanks again for helping me
eventually find a solution.

Think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.
