Not really a whole lot of information there...

I'll take a WAG anyway.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
(all the methods given)

Can't figure that out?

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot will be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.

http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe
(You *may* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce"
right after the reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.

- Come back and let us know how things went!

RE: windows xp home edition
YES ! I THINK I CAN HELP...
I JUST SPENT 4 DAYS HELPING A CUSTOMER RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.

1. HE WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE UPDATES WERE READY FOR HIS COMPUTER
2. HE DOWNLOADED THEM.
3. IT BEGAN THE INSTALL PROCEESS
4. THEN GAVE AN ERROR SAYING
"SOME UPDATES WERE NOT INSTALLED"

I FOUND THIS HAD TO DO WITH THE WUPS2.DLL FILE
MY CUSTOMER HAD NO SUCH FILE IN WINDOWS SYSTEM32 FOLDER, BUT HE DID HAVE
WUPS.DLL

AFTER A LONG SEARCH AND TRIALS I FOUND
1. THAT IF I INSTALLED "WINDOWS UPDATE AGENT"
2. VERIFY THAT WUPS2.DLL WAS IN THE FOLDER
3. RESTARTED THE PC

THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED

IT NOW UPDATES JUST FINE EVERYTIME.
I found the stand Alone Version at http://support.microsift.com/kb/926464

Scroll down to at least half the page and pick your system

Hope this helps. Please reply

God Bless and Good Luck
