Update error 80070003
Received error 80070003 for updates KB941644, 943302, 943899. I've cleared
out windows\softwaredistribution directory and renamed it so a new one was
created and still get the same problem. Other updates over the last couple of
days have worked. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Update error 80070003

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update
from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

Re: Update error 80070003
No. The error is returned in the Windows Update Review screen. The update
downloads and tries to apply. The PC restarts to apply the update and then
restarts again when it failes. Thanks

I have precisely the same problem trying to apply these updates to
Vista Business. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Update error 80070003
I erased the windows\softwaredistribution directory. I then downloaded update
943302 by itself. Not thru autoupdate and installed the update manually. I
did the same for 943899 and then 941644. This seems to have worked.
The Review Update History screen shows them installed but when I ask Windows
to AutoCheck if I need any updates they still appear so I'm a little confused.

Re: Update error 80070003
Exactly the same happened to me also. It said that it installed OK,
but when I tried to check for new updates it tried to reinstall it.
This tells me it did not install properly, if at all, in the first
place. Definitely something wrong with this update, unless I am
missing something.

RE: Update error 80070003
I tried to install fix KB943302 twice today and both times it was successful.
When I look at the installed updates it does not appear.

I installed KB943302 on 1/9. Installed with no problem and shows up
as successfully installed. Only 2 I have ever had problems with are
KB941644 and KB943899. Wish MS would acknowledge that many are having
problems with these 2 and either fix the problem or tell us what we
must change on our systems to install them.

Be more specific? E.g., if you did a manual download of an update
and a manual install that would be independent of both WU and AU.
A place you presumably could check it would be in Add/Remove Programs.

Unfortunately the KB article does not give any hints about how to check
for it having been successfully installed. Since it is neither a security patch
nor a hotfix I wouldn't necessarily expect it to be tested by either MBSA
or qfecheck.exe (for example). Also, I don't have Vista myself so you
would need to find someone else who had installed the update successfully
to get any specific hints about checking for a complete and correct install.

Otherwise I imagine you could try looking for the update's install log and
look in it or inspect the Event log and see if the update is mentioned in it.
Etc.

Cross-posting to a Vista specific newsgroup in case someone
who has installed the update cares to comment or help you further.

Did you install it via WU or not? ; )
