Vista froze at loading screen after 1/8/2008 Automatic updates
After applying the 1/8/2008 updates through Windows (Automatic) Update, Vista
restarted fine once as it configured the updates before the system restarted
and after the reboot. But from then on Vista froze when the loading screen
began to fade in (The loading bar with the green indicator). It never fully
faded in, it partially loaded the loading screen and froze about half a
second after it appeared.

This was fixed only until I used the "Start Windows with previously known
settings that worked" option in the Windows error boot prompt when loading
Windows again after a hard reset. I also had to Reinstall my Audigy sound
card driver, and my ICH9R southbridge drivers were also reinstalled by Vista
automatically after this.

It my system has since booted just fine, but I'm a bit worried, and I can
only assume it was the update that probably fudged something up with either
the boot process or the SATA/IDE drivers and/or the Southbridge chipset
drivers.

Just submitting this here incase there are any Microsoft, Windows, or
Windows Update developers in here. I couldn't find any other place in the
Microsoft web site where I can submit issues like this for inspection by the
Windows Update Team.

RE: Vista froze at loading screen after 1/8/2008 Automatic updates

I've had the same problem. Tried starting in safe mode (then all other
options) still no luck - windows would not start. Had to restart from the
Vista CD and go back to the last restore point. Now about to turn off for
the night and I see Windows wants to install the updates again. Assume I
will have the same probs so will not do it, but I too am worried. How do I
remove the nag that new updates are ready to install?
