Failed updates KB943411 and KB935509 on Vista Ultimate x86
These two updates failed on Jan 8 and have failed on each night since with
error code 80004005. They fail on autoupdate or if an update of each is tried
individually. A manual (downloaded file) update is available for KB43411. It
appears to succeed and initially shows up the update history as successful
but remains in the list of required updates, which continue to fail.
Using msconfig to start Vista with only MS services and without startup
applications (so no AV or FW, Diskkeeper not running, etc) makes no
difference.
System has Intel 975X MB, SATA (AHIC, no RAID) HDs, Nvidia 8800 GT video.
Has anyone encountered this -- for either of these updates -- and found a
solution or workaround?

Re: Failed updates KB943411 and KB935509 on Vista Ultimate x86
I had a similar problem and had to completely uninstall Comodo firewall
to get them installed.

Re: Failed updates KB943411 and KB935509 on Vista Ultimate x86
Bingo! I'd thought that using msconfig, which keeps all non-selected services
from running, would do the trick. But clearly there's something else in
Comodo.
Uninstalling it allowed the updates to proceed. Re-installing seemed to be
uneventful.
Thanks,

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527
Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport
For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB123456).
For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx
For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Re: Failed updates KB943411 and KB935509 on Vista Ultimate x86
Best of luck with Microsoft support, I am getting no where fast with a
gentleman from Update support in the Orient who fails to read what I have
written regarding KB 935509 and ignores any of the items published on the
tech net re the same problem. I have followed the instructions in KB 933528
and this does not resolve as to why KB935509 continues to fail. I have also
turned of system restore and tried applying the patch in safe mode and tried
downloading it directly with no success. How do I elevate this issue to
somebody in Microsoft that wants to resolve the problem?

RE: Failed updates KB943411 and KB935509 on Vista Ultimate x86
Hi John,
My name is Diana and Robear has asked that I escalate this issue. It
appears that this is not a Windows Update isssue as you can not install the
update manually.
I am going to open a case with our Professional Setup Team who will assist
you with this issue. I will need the following:
First and Last Name
Direct Phone Number
Email address.
Once I obtain this information, I will create a case and someone from the
Pro Setup Team will give you a call to work on this issue.
PS. Microsoft does care and we will resolve this.
