Updates Not Installed

I had a recent system crash and had to resort to the windows recovery CD and
going thru the repair windows option. Since then I keep getting notices that
security updates (84 of them) are needed but when it gets to the part about
installing them it comes up with the message that they were not installed.
How can I fix this or is the only answer a clean install of the Windows
System. I went to the Update Log as suggested and copied the last several
entries. I will paste it here.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot will be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.

http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe
(You *may* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce"
right after the reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.

- Come back and let us know how things went!

Thanks for the help. I had searched using the term "Update Failure" and again
with "Updates Not Installing" but never received a link to the article you
had made reference to. I went to the knowledge base article and the Method #1
worked. The updates dowlnloaded and installed without a problem. Thanks again
for your time and pointing me in the right direction.
