cannot install update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pac

when i try to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 update
it fails to install. i have found an error code of Error Code: 0x80131700

can anybody help ? - thanks

Try the Resolution in this KB (ignore the title):

NB: In Step #7, you will only need to download/install .NET Framework 1.1
Service Pack 1; you do NOT need to download/install .NET Framework 1.1, too.
