Windows Vista Home Basic cannot install uptades

Hello,

I bought notebook with Windows Vista Home Basic. System had been installing
uptades by long time, probably 34 'patches', next system reboot. After
several minutes I can see 'Configuring uptades', I was waiting by several
dozen minutes, next I see desktop. I run Control Panel, next 'Programs and
Features' -> 'View installed uptades' ..and what do I see ? system did not
install any updates. I lost a lot of time and system has no uptades .. what
do I do? Please help me
