XP SP2 freezes on 'Checking Product Key'

Happy 2008 Everyone,

I'm trying to resintall my Dell laptops and apply SP2 for Windows XP
Professional edition. But, like many others, the installation stalls on
the "Checking Product Key" step and hogs 100% of the CPU if I try to do
anything else.

I've read one post about how there are many useful posts on this forum
but was unable to find them after an hour, so I'm crying to help.
Please show me how to bypass this product key check step or any other
workaround.

toward the top of this window enter

Checking Product Key

and you should find information to assist you
