Re: cannot install update
This fix worked wonderfully for me.
I had two installations of Windows XP SP2 on two drives on the same
computer. Was having mouse/tablet interface problem. Ran CD Upgrade in
attempt to resolve the problem.
After running Upgrade updates would download but would never install.
Ran Dial-a-fix and other attempts to repair. Nothing worked.
Did exactly what sdlomi2 said to do. Worked great on one installation. One
run, then all updates downloaded and installed. On the other installation, I
had to do the REGSVR32 entries twice and rebooted about two or three times.
On the last reboot, it picked up the Windows Installer 3.1, installed it and
after that everything worked the way it is supposed to do.
I have been having problems with this for six months and was about to give
up and migrate to Vista. Can't tell you how happy I am that this worked.
