how to install updates once they are downloaded
I have been using the Windows Update feature where a pop-up window informs me
when new updates are ready for my computer. I click in this window, it gives
me a choice of which updates to download and install, and I choose the ones I
want, and they download. I had previously thought the updates were both
downloaded and installed, but now I believe they are only being downloaded to
my computer. This is because last night I clicked to download the Windows XP
Service Pack 2, and when I returned to my computer this morning it was not
installed. Maybe none of the updates I have been downloading ever get
installed. How do I install updates once they have been downloaded? Where do
they get downloaded to on my computer? I have no idea how to install updates
once they are downloaded. Please help! Thank you.

Re: how to install updates once they are downloaded
If WinXP SP2 isn't already installed, no other updates will be installed.

Re: how to install updates once they are downloaded
Thanks. But last night I downloaded Windows XP SP2 and it did not become
installed, even though it took forever to download. How do I install an
update, such as SP2, once it has downloaded? Thank you.

Re: how to install updates once they are downloaded
1. Save the installer for SP2 to your desktop (do not Run it):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9E368D3CDB5A
2. Close all open applications (anything with a taskbar icon), disable your
anti-virus application and any anti-spyware applications' real-time
protection, then double-click on the saved file to install. *Reboot twice!*
3. See this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 (ignore the
title; just do what it says)
4. Install all post-SP2 critical updates via Windows Update or Automatic
Updates.

RE: how to install updates once they are downloaded
Normally when you go on windows update site
You can check which updates have been downloaded successfully by viewing
your history on their web site or on your computer go to start, control
panel, add and remove programs and check updates most will have eg KB123456
Most of the critical updates will be downloaded

Re: how to install updates once they are downloaded
Thank you, PA Bear. I will give your instructions a try. I still wonder
though, how to install updates I have already downloaded to my computer.
Isn't there a button somewhere to just click "install"? I have downloaded
tons of stuff seemingly successfully (no error messages) but how do I know if
it got installed? The little things that seem like they should be so
simple....
Thanks again.

RE: how to install updates once they are downloaded
Thanks, Anon. I am pretty sure I downloaded many updates successfully, but I
am looking for how to install them, not download them. (I know how to
download them.) But thanks.
I am getting the feeling that for many people, when they download Windows
updates, they get installed as part of the download process. I wonder why
that doesn't happen for me?
