can't get IE

hi -
newbie here again.
don't laugh - i'm seriously non-tech.
i'm trying to connect to IE on my pc, and the welcome to aol -microsoft IE
comes with the message that the IE encounted a problem and needs to close.
After clicking on that error message for more info - another error message
reads:
iexplorer.exe - application error. the instruction at Ox771c6618 referenced
memory at OxOO6fO11f. the memory could not be read.
i told you i am non-tech.
what does this mean?
how do i fix this so i can install IE7?

This has nothing to do with Windows Update. Please post your question in
this IE-specific newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...plorer.general

When you do so, state your Windows and IE versions.
