updates fail to install, no errorcode given
I have about 90 updates to install. And I can not update them using windows
updater. I get a message which says the updates can't install because of a
problem..and that is all the info I get.

I can install the updates if I download and install them by hand but 90
updates is too much work.

how can I fix this?

RE: updates fail to install, no errorcode given

Hello RRC,

Windows XP ?

Try this solution at <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144>

Reboot

Now try to install your updates.

<http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/>

If no luck, try Dial-ª-fix

<http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix>

Run this program with all the functions activated in safe mºde. (F-8)

Please read the page and Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to Download
Dial-ª-fix

Exit Safe Mode (Rebººt)

You didn't say, or at least it's not clear, whether you tried getting the
updates using Internet Explorer, by going here:

<http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/>

Some new ActiveX software has to be installed on XP before your computer can
be scanned.

Just follow the prompts to do so, but it should then list and download the
same updates, and install them, as those you see in the taskbar notificatiºn.

If going to the site is successful, keep going back until there are no more
critical updates to install.

Try the updates n0w

<http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/>

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut

RE: updates fail to install, no errorcode given
I fixed it now thank you.

But only seconds later I got a Trojan. So now I have to install windows xp
again and the updates. This is the third time that happend now.
Just when I finished installing the updates (and after fixing installion
problems who are different every time) I get a Trojan and I have to start
again..

Any idea to fix this?

Re: updates fail to install, no errorcode given
I get this message from Norman "Location: c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
Trojan: W32/Hupigon.AIVC"

It is the same trojan every time and then windows asks to repair windows
again by installing it.

Just before I installed all the updates I did a spyware scan and removed all
bugs. Then I installed all the updates and reboot my pc. And then the trojan
attacks.

Hi RRC,

Sorry to read your situation.

Just out of interest. What firewall are you using?

But, IS it a trojan and NOT a false positive ?
STRONGLY suggest you scan tcpip.sys here to determine what the situation is:
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus

If Norman quarantines or deletes the file than Windows will keep
informing you that the files is *required* and that you should 'repair'.

I don't know what a "false positive" is but the file is clean according to
that site you gave me. It was clean last time too but after installing
updates en rebooting it becomes infected.
