Prefetch File error after new updates are installed

I get this message after the newest update was installed on my laptop (XP
w/SP2)

msmsgs.exe-0620E8B3.pf corrupt or unreadable - use ChkDsk

Any thoughts? I don't know how to use the ChkDsk option, so I did a system
restore point to about a week ago. Thanks.
