updates won't install

I am using Windows XP and I have the yellow shield that pops up and says
ready for updates. My problems is that I start the update process and the
program says that it is Initializing Installation and then it says done. They
can't be installed because they always says FAILED. The windows updates that
come up are:
Windows Geniune Advantage Notification (KB 905474)
Update For Windows XP (KB 922582)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool December 2007 (KB890830)

Please can someone tell me how to fix this so that I can get these updates
done. This way if there are more updates later then I can get them put on my
home computer.

I had fixed one of my updates by going to the Internet. I went on the
Internet and typed in Updates for Windows XP (KB 922582) and just followed
the link and downloaded the update I needed to fix the problem myself. I
wanted to post this on my own message because maybe this might help someone
else who may have the same problems that I was having.
