The docs concerning installation of WSUS 3.0 RTM on "Longhorn Server" are
applicable to the (BETA) version of "Longhorn Server" that existed at the
time of release of WSUS 3.0.
What features, enhancements, bug fixes, and modifications that have been
made to Windows Server 2008 since then, particularly with respect to
preventing the installation of "...programs with compatibility issues..." is
exclusively an issue to take up with the Windows Server team.
I expect, however, that the WSUS 3.0 SP1 package will be fully functional on
Windows Server 2008. Since Windows Server 2008 is still pre-release
software, and we're obviously talking about activities taking place
exclusively in a testing environment, I would suggest installing WSUS 3.0
SP1 Release Candidate on the Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate, and see
what you encounter there.
And, if you do encounter issues, please be so kind as to log onto the
MSConnect site and report any such issues to the WSUS SP1 dev team to ensure
they can be addressed before release of WSUS 3.0 Service Pack 1.
