Do I need the .Net framework on my only home pc?
If not how do I stop this update?

You don't have nothing to loose

This is the site for the original .NET download.

Install it ontop of the existing you have on Vista, then run the Windows
Update.

It will now show it installed successfully.

Try the Resolution in this KB (ignore the title):

NB: In Step #7, you will only need to download/install .NET Framework 1.1
Service Pack 1; you do NOT need to download/install .NET Framework 1.1, too.
