Error number: 0x8007043C in windows update

I receive this message when trying to use windoes update from IE. Can anyone
help me find out what this means and how to correct it?

ERROR_NOT_SAFEBOOT_SERVICE
The service is not supported in the safe boot mode.

Check the Services to see if BITS is set to Manual and Automatic Updates
is set to Automatic.
Right click My Computer on the Desktop or Start Menu and choose
Manage
Click on Services and Applications in the left frame
Double click on Services in the right frame and confirm BITS and AU
settings.
