update installation always fails
I am not very computer smart so please bear with me. Windows/microsoft update
installations have failed for past couple of months.I get an Error code:
0x80242008 when trying to install both the Cumulative Security Update for
Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB939653) and the Security Update for
Windows XP (KB938127). I have been installing updates on this computer for
over three years and all of a sudden those two updates fail every time? Would
someone please advise me how to fix? My computer has been so very slow and
"hangs" forever and I think maybe its because I need to get these updates
installed?? Thanks.

RE: update installation always fails
Hello Patti,

0x80242008

WU_E_UH_OPERATIONCANCELLED

The install was canceled via a handler method (as opposed to, for example,
an installer running with UI that was cancelled externally to WSUS).

Where is your Program Files directory located? As I've been researching your
error code, I have found that many people are having their update fail all
had their Program Files on another drive or partition like D:/.

You may also want to check your services settings. Automatic Updates (Set to
Automatic), Background Intelligent Transfer Service (Set to Manual) and
Cryptographic Services (Set to Automatic).
