Error Code 0X80246008

When I try to update win xp to SP2 i get this error code 0X80246008. After
reading a little on the board i tried running
services.msc and when i set the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service"
service status says stopped. when i click start it gives me a error message
like this -2147024873

any ideas how to fix this?

All of this started when i tried to install this update
"Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP
5.1 (KB842773)"

I have alread tried this and the folder already exists any other ideas?

Start Regedit.exe (from Start/Run)

Locate the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\BackupRestore\

Create the following key if it does not exist:
FilesNotToBackup

so you have this path when finished:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l
\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup\
