Manual updating fails. Cannot run ActiveX executable.
Hi, I am trying to update my system manually. When I click windows
update in IE7, the requested ActiveX which must be downloaded from MS
update site does not appear.

I followed the guidelines outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259
and downloaded version 6 of the Windows Update ActiveX control.
However, the problem persists. (Manual updating worked w/o problems
before. I downloaded a series of programs lately and can't remember
when manual updating was disabled.)

The WindowsUpdate log indicates that automatic updates are taking
place albeit with intermittent connection errors.

TIA for any hints.

System: XP Home Edition

Re: Manual updating fails. Cannot run ActiveX executable.
After googling extensively, I found the following posts that helped me
solve the Active X problem and the ensuing errors:

1. Cannot install Windows Updates due to ActiveX problems:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...0ba3761ed8?hl=
en&lnk=gst&q=ActiveX+cannot#8d1a7f0ba3761ed8

2. MS KB 916259

Along the way I encountered errors 0x80070424, 0x8007043B, 0x8024001E,
0x8024402C. The following posts proved useful in addressing these
issues:

1. Error No.:0x80070424 Unable to download from site Windows Update

2. 0x8024402c Windows Update Error
