KB941649

I got a failed installation with error code 8007007E twice for KB941649, so I
downloaded the standalone version 2 (Windows6.0-KB941649-v2-x86.msu). This
said that it installed successfully in the update history, but it doesn't
appear in the installed updates and Windows update keeps prompting me to
install KB941649. I've seen other messages about this update not installing,
but no answers yet. Any assistance greatly appreciated!

Your not alone. I'm in a total "round robin" loop with this update on Vista
Ultimate 32bit. It's failed multiple times. On a few occations it states a
suceccssfull install, only to find out that it didn't. I've also tried
installing it manually without any luck. NOw Vista keeps wanting to install
KB941649 everytime I shutdown the computer. I just may remove it from my
update list and hope MS gets this issue fixed ASAP.

The strange thing is that this update installed find my laptop running Vista
Home Premium 32 bit. Go figure..

I have had the same experience. My Update History shows one successful
installation and several prior and subsequent failures. Interestingly,
in "Control Panel/Programs and Features/Installed Updates", KB941649
is not listed as installed. I don't think I care about this update
since it seems like it applies mostly to laptops. However, it keeps
trying to install the update every night which is interfering with my
back-up job. I have tried simply removing it from my update list, but
there is no way to commit the deselection - after unchecking all
boxes, the only action available is to cancel. Is there a registry
entry I can change to stop Vista from trying to install this update?

I am a big fan of Vista and honestly I really had no idea where all
the anti-Vista angst was coming from. This is my first real issue with
the OS.
