when i try to download a pdf file,i get a blank screen with the message in
the right hand corner "done "
this has only just started to occur .. anyone help with this

Your thread does not suggest you have an update problem!
But without any info re system etc it is difficult to suggest where to send
you.
Search that discussion group in which you have posted for a more suitable
group.

Reinstall whatever application you have to read PDFs.
Perhaps Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1.1?
Perhaps FoxIt Reader?
Other?
