Re: Vista Update error 80072EFD after joining domain

Hello;

I applied this fix about three months ago to all the Vista Business laptops
on our domain and everything seemed to be working fine... until windows
released the

windows update software 7.0.6000.381 on 9/20/2007.

Install failed with error 8024d00f and I have not been able to install any
updates since then. When I checked the registry setting that we had changed
to 0 it was changed back to 1. I tried changing it back to 0 and it causes
the update search to just go on for a long time before coming back with the
error 80072ee2.

EUREKA!!!
When i followed the above steps and added the additional trusted site below
it worked!!!

https://*.update.microsoft.com

If you are on company’s domain and if you are receiving error 0x80072EFD on
windows update, 99% it will be because of group policy
As mentioned above, update following key to value 0 , this will allow Vista
to use public site for update rather than which are mentioned in
WUStatusServer and WUServer
keyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\ Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU\
UseWUServer
